Keynote: Making Moments: Dr. Roland Rios
Dr. Roland Rios currently serves as the Director of Technology for the Ft. Sam Houston Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas. During his 25+ year career in education, he has been a math teacher, high school assistant principal, and middle and high school principal. He also serves as President of TCEA.

In 2012, he was named the “TCEA Technology Administrator of the Year” for Texas and was also named one of TechSmith’s “20 to Watch in Educational Technology” for the U.S.

When not enjoying time with his wife and two wonderful grown children, Roland enjoys performing community service, taking photos and playing the guitar really badly. You can follow him on Twitter at @drrios.

KEYNOTE: Inspiring Greatness
Giancarlo has dedicated his entire career serving the education community. He has worked with students as young as pre-k all the way through to University and his unique lens of seeing learning through technology placed him at one of Ontario’s first one-to-one schools. Recognizing the value and importance of scaling innovative practices he served as consultant to almost all Ontario school districts as they transitioned to digital, then did the same across North America and internationally. Giancarlo is currently the Global Education Strategist at SMART Technologies and reports directly to the CEO. He engages with education thought leaders, researchers, policy organizations and government officials to gain insight and influence trends in the k-12 education space. He serves on the board of directors of C21 Canada- an organization promoting 21 Century learning across Canada, Chair of the Samuel Beatty Fund at the University of Toronto – promoting the study of STEM subjects and is part of the OECD advisory group on the study of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Skills, the world’s first international assessment of SEL skills.

Hour of Code with SMART Technology Developers & UISD
In this “thinking outside the box” project, UISD students learned from SMART Technology Developers in Seattle, Washington and Calgary, Canada including an ALL Girl Developer collaboration session.
